Materials and Metallurgical Engineer, Bachelor of Science, University of Florida, 1972.

1972 through 1975, traveled around the world, living and working in Australia, Switzerland and England.

1975 to 1977, Welding engineer and welding inspector on the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline.

1977 to 1982, Licensed independent general building contractor for residential and light commercial buildings in State of California.

1983 to 2000, worked as project manager, project engineer, quality control and quality assurance manager on numerous industrial construction projects in Alaska and the western U.S.  and in Canada. Most of this work was in petroleum handling, gas and oil pipelines, off-shore platforms, and residential gas distribution systems in Arizona, Colorado, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Alberta and Northwest Territories.

2000 to present, licensed independent general building contractor in the State of Washington.

Residential building experience.

George Bottcher is the son of a plumber and grew up in the building trades. He worked in Melbourne, Australia, as a cabinet maker and installer, worked in Switzerland as a finish carpenter and in England as a roofer.

George has renovated several of his own buildings including a 1887 Victorian house, a 1908 craftsman house and 1930 Spanish style building. He has added a second story to 2 different homes and has added rooms to several different homes. He has been included in numerous other residential building projects.

George is an active member of EEBA, "Energy and Environmental Building Association" and has attended their national week long educational program and studied in their workshops. He is also an active member of the Central Washington Chapter of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild in Ellensburg. He is currently the elected secretary of the chapter.  George has attended several regional trade workshops and retreats and is trained as a Master Home Environmentalist volunteer by the American Lung Association.

Motivating factors

George Bottcher is an asthmatic and has allergies. He feels there is a strong need in the community for healthier homes.

He has two young children and desires to live at home rather than travel, as he has in the past.
